Make Cold Brew & Iced Coffee at Home!

Our Operations Wizard, Emma Crawford, put together a tutorial for those of you looking for some in home brewing methods for cold brew or iced coffee! Watch this video for specifics on how to do these things, but for the quick “what did she say?” version, we’ve incorporated the recipes and some links below!

COLD BREW (Coffee is brewed over a longer period of time using either cold or room temperature water from beginning to end. It’s never brought down from a hot temperature, usually has more caffeine, and tends to be stronger tasting depending on the recipe)

In home options:

  • Use an 8 cup French Press (See Instructions in Video):

    • 100g coffee (About 3.5oz or 6.5 scoops)

    • 580g room temperature water (about20.5oz)

    • Let sit in refrigerator for 12 hours

    • Once finished, it should yield about 371g back (about 13oz)

    • Take the yield (13oz or 371g) and divide by .75 to get the total amount of liquid.

    • Pour cold or room temperature water up to that total. (For this recipe it should be about 495g or 17.5oz)

    • Pour over a glass of ice.

You may also try systems that involve mason jars, water bottles, Aeropresses, Toddy, and Filtron

ICED COFFEE (Coffee is brewed through a hot process and brought down in temperature either with ice or sitting in a refrigerator after being made. It tends to taste less strong and can be made much quicker than cold brew)

In home options:

  • Make a V60 (filters available here), or Chemex (filters available here), place in fridge until cool, then pour over glass of ice.

  • Make an iced V60

    • 30g coffee ground slightly finer than drip coffee

    • 335g hot water

    • Brew over top 165g ice

    • Pour final product over glass of ice
