Erica Webb - Baker

Erica has lived in Lexington for about four years, but she’s originally from a small town called Whitesburg, Kentucky. She moved to Lexington to attend the University of Kentucky (Go Cats!) where, many student loans and late-night writing sessions later, she obtained her degree in English. As you can probably already guess, Erica likes books, as well as all things “geek.” She’s been known to host the occasional board game night and will gladly talk about Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc. anytime.

What is your spirit animal?

My spirit animal is probably a capybara. I'm a little odd and kind of quiet, but I’m friendly with pretty much anyone. Plus, I’m also a vegetarian!

Three of your favorite books?

Watership Down by Richard Adams, Dubliners by James Joyce, and A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

What’s the best place you’ve stopped for coffee on a road trip?

The best place I’ve stopped was Zuma Coffee in North Carolina. My dad and I had just gone whitewater rafting for my 21st birthday and it was the closest coffee shop we could find. It was in a small town near the river, one of those “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” kind of places with a lot of old buildings and a lot of charm. What made the shop special wasn’t the coffee (which was excellent); when we came in, they were having a small community concert, and the whole place was packed from wall to door. We didn't stay long, but being there in that moment, it was like stepping into the everyday life of that community and really connecting with them as people. It reminded me of what a powerful impact a little coffee shop can have in a community.

What is your favorite thing about the coffee fam?

I love how supportive and welcoming everyone is. No matter who you are or where you’re from, when you walk in that door, you’re family.

Least favorite way to burn calories?

Treadmills. The treadmill is my nemesis. It feels like I’m running on a hamster wheel. I get so bored.

What’s your favorite thing to eat on a “treat yo self” day?

Pizza. Always pizza.
